This subject aims to provide students with a firm grounding in current theory and practice of employee learning and talent development and to develop a level of confidence and basic skills in coaching, training design, delivery and evaluation.

Indicative Syllabus
Learning theories & how they connect to learning & talent development in practice.

Learning & talent development - practical strategies

Practical training skills-devise, conduct and evaluate a learning event

Designing & evaluating talent development

Practical coaching skills - deliver, observe and provide feedback on a one to one coaching session

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Describe, compare & critically evaluate a range of theories & concepts related to individual & organisational learning.

  2. Critically discuss the main components of the training design and delivery process.

  3. Describe & critically evaluate the role of evaluation within managing learning & talent development.

  4. Conduct, observe and provide feedback with regard to a one to one business coaching session.

  5. Design & deliver a training event on a business related topic.


Assessment Strategies
A combination of in class exercises, multiple choice tests, written research reports, oral presentations, skill demonstrations and end of semeseter examination will be used as appropriate, for formative and/or summative assessment.

Assessment Facilitites
A room suitable for conducting practical exercises such as role plays, interviews.
