Description
This subject aims to develop the learner's general people management skills in a variety of professional people management contexts. The module aims to develop the skills required of graduate managers in effectively managing people in professional settings; this may be in the context of engaging professionally with staff and/or clients. The learner will appraise current theory and practice in managing people, building on the skills developed in People Management Skills 1, specifically in two areas; managing and resolving conflict through effective negotiation and coaching practice and skills. Learners will develop the capacity to evaluate professional situations and to identify and engage in appropriate strategies to manage people effectively.

Indicative Syllabus
1. Theory and practice of effective people management skills

2. Conflict resolution through negotiation; theory, techniques and skills

3. Coaching theory, techniques and skills

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Critically evaluate the current theory and practice in relation to effective people management.

  2. Analyse the role of people management skills in successful organisations.

  3. Formulate creative and effective strategies and solutions with regard to people management issues.

  4. Design, deliver and implement an effective negotiation strategy related to a people management scenario.

  5. Design and deliver an effective coaching initiative related to a people management scenario


Assessment Strategies
The assessment of this module will be continuous. Assessments will incorporate both the develop of appropriate strategies, based on an understanding of best practice, and the application of these strategies, through an assessment of skills.
