This subject aims to introduce students to the key ideas of Human Resource Management as a strategic component of business activity and to develop their capacities to think and act strategically. A general management focus rather than a functional HRM focus is adopted.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Discuss the nature of strategy and the role of HRM in the strategic management process.

  2. Analyse the role and practice of HRM at the strategic level

  3. Examine the links from management intentions to HRM organisational outcomes

  4. Asssess theoretical frameworks and principles that can help firms to manage individuals more effectively.

  5. Examine the way HR strategy affects business viability and competitive advantage across the phases of the industry life cycle.

  6. Evaluate business scenarios and propose relevant HR responses to deal with the issues involved
