Description
This module will explore the influence of theoretical issues in architecture on the current work of the student. It will allow students to theoretically examine their own work through a series of presentation methodologies. Through a series of critical writing workshops students will critically analyse their own work.

The module aims
  • To explore issues the learners work by relating them to contemporary architectural theory
  • To investigate the significance of their designs to architectural discourse.
  • To enable students to communicate their own design ideas in the context of issues from contemporary theory and practice
  • To develop ability to champion self-led design and research

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Compile a series of short texts using critical writing techniques to describe and articulate the key ideas and philosophies inherent in the students design portfolio

  2. Critically appraise their ideas  and relate them to the designs and works of others

  3. Exhibit detailed knowledge of the cultural influences on specialised areas within the practice of architecture and design


Assessment Strategies
Formative assessment of individual and/or group presentations and debate. Summative assessment of student's research and findings as compiled in the written dissertation.
