Description
This module will explore the influence of theoretical issues in architecture on the practice of architecture. In addition it will allow students to develop their own area of special interest in architecture through a series of presentation methodologies. Students will compile a 5,000 word dissertation submitted in support of candidature for a BA in Interior Architecture (honours) Level 8 degree.

The module aims

To explore issues in contemporary architectural theory by relating them to architectural practice

To investigate the significance of theoretical issues to architectural practice through key examples.

To enable students to understand their own design ideas in the context of issues from contemporary theory and practice

To encourage self-led research into contemporary architectural practice and theory

. To develop student's ability to compile written work to the standard of an academic dissertation

Indicative Syllabus
A 5,000 word dissertation submitted in support of candidature for a BA in Interior Architecture (honours) Level 8 degree

The Dissertation should be based on an areas of interest derived from the vision points for the Interior Architecture programme.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Critically appraise their ideas  and relate them to the designs and works of others

  2. Exhibit detailed knowledge of the cultural influences on specialised areas within the practice of architecture and design

  3. Compile an academic dissertation on a specialist area within the practice of architecture and design


Assessment Strategies
Formative assessment of individual and/or group presentations and debate. Summative assessment of student's research and findings as compiled in the written dissertation.
