The student will develop a knowledge and understanding of the financial management methods for analysing the benefits of various sources of finance and capital investment opportunities, appreciate the importance of good working capital management and apply management accounting techniques for business planning and control.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to
  1. Assess nature and purpose of accounting and describe the relationship between financial management, management accounting and financial accounting.

  2. Evaluate the role of the finance function within a business

  3. Prepare projected financial statements for a business and interpret their significance for decision-making purposes.

  4. Apply the main techniques used in the appraisal of capital expenditure decisions and interpret the results.

  5. Evaluate the sources of finance available and appraise the suitability of the different sources in the context of an organisation's size and financial requirements.

  6. Assess the working capital needs of different organisations and evaluate the importance of good working capital management.

This subject will be assessed by a combination of an individual exam style continuous assessment and an end of semester exam.
